1. Red Deer After Midnight: Food and Coffee
Checked 2026-09-15 (Mountain Time). Hours change, so call ahead.
True overnight means you can get served around 1, 3 or 5 a.m. Open late usually means closing around midnight. That's fine after an evening shift, but no help on a mid-shift break. Directory listings that say “24 hours” are only leads. Anything we couldn't confirm from a primary source is marked unverified, call ahead.

Hospital area (RDRHC)
- Jolt N Bolt (Main Level, South Complex): Mon–Fri 7am–7pm, Sat–Sun 9am–4pm, holidays 10am–4pm. Closed overnight (per AHS).
- Café VA / Garden Court: open daytime only.
For night shifts at the hospital, plan to eat off-site: Denny’s on Gaetz, 50th Ave coffee, or a drive-thru you've confirmed. Delivery apps can list kitchens that are already closed, so confirm by phone.

2. Overnight Essentials: Is There a 24-Hour Pharmacy in Red Deer?
Checked 2026-09-24 (Mountain Time). Hours change, so call ahead.
Short answer: no. We found no 24-hour pharmacy in Red Deer. The latest is Shoppers Drug Mart, Village Mall (#2415), 6320 50th Ave, Unit 1, 403-348-8164. The store lists 8am–midnight daily, and the pharmacy counter may close earlier, so call first. This store used to be open 24 hours but stopped on 22 April 2019 (Global News).
Walmart Supercentre #3194, 2010 50th Ave: store open 7am–10pm daily. Pharmacy: 403-358-5849. Real Canadian Superstore, 5016 51 Ave (403-350-3527): listings disagree on closing time, so call ahead.

Getting around late
Red Deer Transit's regular routes stop at 8pm Monday to Saturday (a temporary reduction). From 8pm to midnight, the Dynamic Shuttle leaves Sorensen Station at :15 and :45 past the hour and goes to any stop. On Sundays and holidays, the last departure is 7:45pm and there's no shuttle. Past midnight, plan on a taxi, a ride-share or your own vehicle.

3. Night-Owl Year Calendar 2026
Checked 2026-09-20 (Mountain Time). Confirm your own roster and workplace holiday calendar.
Alberta has nine general holidays. Heritage Day, Boxing Day, Easter Monday and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (30 September) are optional: they only apply if your employer recognizes them. Stampede isn't a holiday, but it's a busy stretch for anyone working in the region. If you want company for coffee, the gym or a walk around a peak, start asking 4–6 weeks ahead.

The next window is 20 September to 15 November 2026. Evenings get dark early, and isolation on night shift often builds before deep winter. Now is a good time to find friends who keep the same hours. Stick to public places: a diner booth after your shift, the gym, or a daylight walk.
Central Alberta After Dark is 18+ only. It is not a teen space.
